LIHEAP Applications Are Open

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps families living on low incomes pay their heating bills in the form of a cash grant. Households in immediate danger of being without heat can also qualify for crisis grants. The cash grant is a one-time payment sent directly to the utility company/fuel provider to be credited on your bill. These grants range from $500 to $1,500 based on household size, income, and fuel type. Remember: This is a grant and does not have to be repaid.

Eligibility:

• You must meet income guidelines

• You don’t have to be on public assistance

• You don’t need to have an unpaid heating bills

• You can rent or own your home

To be considered for a LIHEAP grant, an applicant must meet the 2021-2022 income guidelines:

Household Size of 1: Income Limit $19,320

Household Size of 2: Income Limit $26,130

Household Size of 3: Income Limit $32,940

Household Size of 4: Income Limit $39,750

Household Size of 5: Income Limit $46,560

Household Size of 6: Income Limit $53,370

• For every additional household member, add $6,810

How to Apply

There are two ways to apply for LIHEAP:

• Online: Applications can be submitted here.

• By Paper: Applications may be printed at the same link and mailed to your local county assistance office (CAO).
